An exhibition retraces Alonso’s career in Madrid

Winter is here, but some drivers take advantage of this break to carry out extra-sport activities. Fernando Alonso, the 2013 world vice-champion behind Sebastian Vettel, has inaugurated an exhibition that retraces his entire career in motorsport, from his beginnings in karting to his presence within Scuderia Ferrari in recent years.

This retrospective of the career of the double world champion – in 2005 and 2006 with Renault – features accessories, single-seaters, and trophies of the Spaniard who has also lent, for the duration of the exhibition, his famous collection of helmets from his adversaries. Indeed, for several years, Alonso has been collecting helmets from his peers to add to his collection.

Many objects were also lent by the pilot’s father, who had kept numerous treasures in his garage for years, as Alonso revealed during the inauguration last Monday: « It’s incredible what my father was able to preserve. I understand better now why there were so many boxes in the family garage. »

The exhibition, which will be held at the Centro Arte Canal until May 4, 2014, also serves as a promotion for the foundation created by the driver several years ago. Many notable figures were present on the opening day, including all the team bosses Alonso has worked with, from Giancarlo Minardi to Stefano Domenicali, as well as Flavio Briatore and Martin Whitmarsh.
