Sergio Pérez is disappointed by McLaren!

For several days, a persistent rumor has placed the young Dane Kevin Magnussen at McLaren replacing Sergio Pérez in 2014. Nothing has been officially announced by the team or the drivers, but Pérez spoke to the press today, and his comments seem to be those of someone who has already moved on from his stint with the Woking team.

Sergio Pérez is disappointed by McLaren!

The difficult season for McLaren this year is affecting the team’s stability. Criticized for results considered disappointing, Sergio Pérez seems to be on the way out just a year after his commitment with the team.

The young Kevin Magnussen, recent champion of Formula Renault 3.5 with the DAMS team, seems to be called upon to replace him as early as 2014. The son of former Stewart and McLaren driver Jan Magnussen is a homegrown talent, somewhat like Lewis Hamilton, who was nurtured by Ron Dennis for many years.

If no announcement has been made yet, it seems that the official confirmation of Pérez’s departure will not take long. In any case, he expressed his dismay to the Brazilian site Totalrace: « I am very disappointed. I think when your goals are higher than your results, you are inevitably disappointed. And that applies to both parties. McLaren is a great team. I have no doubt about that. It’s a team capable of great things, but I think it lacks a bit of organization and humility in the face of reality. »

The former Sauber driver clarifies his thoughts: « During the season, being a big team, McLaren took a while to realize its actual position, which was to score points during weekends rather than win races. The team took a long time to come to this realization. »

Martin Whitmarsh, the team director, does not seem to be the main person responsible for this situation according to the Mexican driver: « I think Martin is a great leader. I have nothing negative to say about him. But a team doesn’t rely on just one leader. It depends on many things that weren’t good enough. »

Sergio Pérez, visibly on his way out, is already looking towards his future which could unfold in one of the three teams still having a free seat, namely Lotus, Force India, or Sauber: « I have to see which is the best option for my future. Above all, I support my country and that is what matters. »
