The Indian Grand Prix will proceed as scheduled
While a threat was looming over the organization of Sunday's Indian Grand Prix due to a petition filed by an activist with the Supreme Court of India, the court has decided to postpone the review of this complaint, which was supposed to take place today, to a later date. Therefore, the Grand Prix will proceed as usual.
The Indian Grand Prix, which began today with the first free practice sessions, is expected to continue as scheduled for the rest of the weekend.
A threat was looming over his organization after an Indian activist filed a public interest litigation with the Supreme Court of India aiming to cancel the race. The Indian authority initially decided to review this appeal today, but announced this morning that the review would take place at a later date. The race is therefore no longer threatened.
It’s a relief for the organizers but also for the Indian Motor Sport Federation, which expressed itself through its President, Vicky Chandhok: « You will always find odd people trying to cancel a sporting event, whether it’s cricket or something else. It has happened before and it’s not new in this country. We are the world’s largest democracy, and anyone can file a public interest litigation in any court. But judges don’t really appreciate a sporting event being canceled, especially on the eve of the event. »
Let us remember, however, that the Grand Prix will not be on the calendar next year, and that this incident is unlikely to improve the organizers’ situation in the eyes of Bernie Ecclestone.
