Maria de Villota was found dead this morning in a hotel room in Seville. The career in motorsport of the 33-year-old Spaniard had been abruptly interrupted in July 2012, after a straight-line test session at Duxford Airport in Great Britain with the Marussia team.
Victim of a serious accident during these tests, Maria de Villota miraculously survived but lost an eye and suffered severe cervical complications after crashing into a truck while returning to the pits at the wheel of the Marussia.
This morning, the Spanish media reported the death of the pilot, information that was later confirmed by her family: « Dear friends, Maria has left us. She must join paradise, like all angels. We thank God for this additional year and a half that He allowed us to spend by her side. »
The causes of his death are not known at the moment.
