Maldonado, disappointed by his situation, vents his feelings

Pastor Maldonado is living a season in hell with Williams this year. Having won a race in Spain in 2012, he struggles with not having a competitive car at his disposal. While he is confident in his ability to win, he is not sure if he will still be in Formula 1 next year.

Maldonado, disappointed by his situation, vents his feelings

Just one point: that is the tally for Pastor Maldonado and Williams after the Korean Grand Prix, the 14th of 19 races in the 2013 Formula 1 World Championship. Of course, this result is far from what the driver and his team were expecting: « I am really experiencing tough times. I need to keep my motivation to continue doing my best. I really need a good car to enjoy myself, and this year, I’m not having fun. I want more than this. I am here for more. »

After tasting victory in Spain last year, the struggles at the back of the grid seem to be affecting Maldonado significantly, impacting his morale: « I don’t want to just be in Formula 1. To be honest, it’s better to stay home if it goes like this. I don’t care about just being a Formula 1 driver. I’m here to win, and I need to do everything it takes to get there. »

However, there is still a bit of hope for the Venezuelan who believes in his ability to win once again: « I really hope to have a better car next year. I need it. I’ve proven that every time I had a good car, I could fight for victory and the championship. It’s really frustrating to see myself struggling for Q2. »

Maldonado, visibly annoyed by the situation, does not hesitate to talk about his teammate Valtteri Bottas either: “I’m not here to fight with Bottas. He’s a good driver but that’s not my goal. I want to fight with the best.”

These are remarks that might not sit well with some. In any case, his position at Williams is not guaranteed for 2014 and the Venezuelan is well aware of that: « I hope I will be on the grid. But you never know. It can depend on financial support, or not. You never know, Formula 1 is like that. Last year I was winning a race, today I’m nowhere. This year I’m here, next year I don’t know where I’ll be. »
