Official: Jules Bianchi stays with Marussia in 2014
The French driver Jules Bianchi has just been confirmed for the 2014 season with Marussia, which will be powered by Ferrari starting next season. It will be Bianchi's second season in Formula 1 and with the team.
The close ties between Jules Bianchi and Ferrari had once suggested a possible transfer of the French driver to Sauber. But it is with Marussia that the Nice native will continue his Formula 1 apprenticeship in 2014.
He is also very happy with this choice: « I couldn’t have dreamed of a more favorable environment to make my debut in Formula 1, and from the beginning, I felt completely comfortable with the team. We had a great start to the season, and as the challenge increased throughout the season, we learned important lessons together that put us in a much stronger position for next year, where there will be many changes in the sport that the team will have to get used to. I am very happy to be part of the team as we all enter this new era for Formula 1, and I look forward to achieving some rewarding performances together. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Ferrari Driver Academy for their constant support in my career.»
On John Booth’s side, Marussia team director, the renewal of Bianchi seems almost like a given: « We are immensely pleased to announce that we will be moving forward in 2014 with Jules as one of our race drivers. Jules has met the challenge of his first season exceptionally well and has since clearly demonstrated his ability and potential. 2014 marks a new era for the sport, and continuity and consistency in the line-up will be important to help us in this transition. »
The identity of his teammate will be known later in the season. Max Chilton, of course, remains among the contenders.
