Saturday: Marussia Victim of Its Mistakes and Problems
The two Marussia drivers finished quite far from the Caterhams today in qualifying, but there is an explanation for each of them. Jules Bianchi encountered a DRS problem, while Max Chilton drove with almost 20 kilograms of excess fuel, which heavily impacted his lap times.
Jules Bianchi – 20th and 21st:
Unfortunately, we ran out of time to keep working to find a good balance here. It’s clear that I’m struggling a bit with the car and losing time because of that, but I’m optimistic that we will have a better pace in the race tomorrow. It’s quite disappointing, as it’s such a fantastic circuit and one that’s particularly special for me, but all we can do tomorrow is give our best and hope that opportunities come our way.
Max Chilton – 21st and 22nd:
« After such a positive start to the weekend yesterday, I was hoping for a better result today, so it’s a bit disappointing and frustrating to have fallen back a little. I’m nonetheless relieved to know that this is largely due to a fuel issue, which we only discovered at the end of qualifying. 19.5 kilos made all the difference today, and it’s easy to calculate and see the impact it had compared to the cars in front of us on the grid. So I will stay positive and keep in mind that our race pace yesterday seemed promising. We will have our work cut out for us tomorrow, given our starting positions, but we will do everything to make our way up. »
