Friday: Scuderia Toro Rosso has gone in the wrong direction
After a promising morning session, the Toro Rosso drivers went astray with poor setups and couldn't improve their car during Free Practice 2: Jean-Eric Vergne complains of a lack of grip while Daniel Ricciardo feels the car is not tailored enough to his driving style.
Jean-Eric Vergne – 10th and 15th:
« The car was running well this morning, but we weren’t as competitive in the second session. During my short runs, and also on the long ones, I had a balance problem with the car, although this afternoon, this aspect was a bit better than this morning. Overall, I suffered from a lack of grip, which I can’t explain at the moment. Nonetheless, I am confident that we can find solutions to move forward and have fun during a competitive home weekend. »
Daniel Ricciardo – 13th and 17th:
Our performance was quite good this morning, and we tried to improve in FP2, but unfortunately, we seem to have gone in the wrong direction. I only ran with the hard tires this morning; in the afternoon, I didn’t set a competitive time with the mediums. I made some mistakes, I have to admit, but there were too many, so we definitely need to make the car suit me a bit better. At the moment, it’s on a knife-edge. I’m happier with the long runs I did this afternoon, and that was the most positive aspect. Driving here at Monza is always different, and this morning, on the first runs, we really felt the extra speed on the straight, which is a good feeling and something I enjoy when I’m here.
