Friday: Sauber and Toro Rosso in Williams’ sights
At Williams, the drivers have a different mindset: for Pastor Maldonado, the car is close to its maximum performance and he is waiting for tomorrow to see if improvements will be possible, while Valtteri Bottas believes that despite a lack of pace, competing with direct rivals will be possible.
Pastor Maldonado – 9th and 14th:
« We have completed all our plans today. There is a lot to see as we are close to the limit, so it is difficult to find a few extra tenths. It is quite difficult to achieve a good lap as there is a lot of inconsistency in the car’s behavior depending on the corners, but we will see where we will be tomorrow as the track changes a lot. We were not able to improve our time further this afternoon, so we need to work harder to ensure we will be better tomorrow. »
Valtteri Bottas – 16th and 18th:
« It wasn’t an easy day. We had a lot of aerodynamic inconsistencies during FP1 and then in FP2 we lacked a lot of speed on the straights during my stint on medium tires. We need to look into what happened because that’s why the time doesn’t look very good on paper. The positive thing is the long stint because we were competitive compared to the Toro Rossos and the Saubers and I think we can really challenge them in the race this weekend. »
