Friday: Sauber on alternating current
On the Sauber side, the day was mixed: while Esteban Gutierrez encountered no problems and was able to carry out his program while waiting to analyze the data, Nico Hülkenberg had more difficulty, as he was hampered during FP1 by a gearbox issue.
Esteban Gutierrez – 11th and 12th:
« It was a productive Friday, with no problems on the car. We were trying to find the right balance and the right settings for the car this morning. In the afternoon, we made a decision that wasn’t the best. Overall, it seemed positive, and we have very good data to analyze, so we can make the right decision regarding the car’s settings for tomorrow. »
Nico Hülkenberg – 18th and 16th:
« It was quite a difficult day. The morning was somewhat compromised by a gearbox problem, which was resolved before the afternoon session. When I did the long stints, I felt more comfortable in the car than with low fuel. We clearly have room for improvement. We need to look at the data and analyze what happened, because I think we can be more competitive. Otherwise, as usual, we learned things about the tires and the settings. »
