Saturday: Lotus and Räikkönen hope for a dry race at Spa
Only 7th and 8th in a qualifying session greatly disrupted by variable conditions, the Lotus cars of Romain Grosjean and Kimi Räikkönen are more comfortable when the drops are not falling, and the Finn hopes for a dry track during the race to showcase all the qualities of the E21.
Romain Grosjean – 8th and 7th
« It wasn’t an easy session today with the changing conditions and even though it’s good to be in the top 10, it wasn’t exactly what we were hoping for. It was a big challenge to know the state of the track, to make the right decisions at the right time, and to adjust speed to the conditions. At the end of qualifying, you have to be on the track at the right time. I will work with the engineers later to understand why Kimi is a bit faster in the dry, where we can improve on a wet track, and the options in terms of strategy. I will do my best for the race tomorrow. »
Kimi Räikkönen – 10th and 8th
« When it was dry in the second part of qualifying, we were the fastest, so if it’s dry tomorrow we should be OK for the race, even if we’re not starting from a great position. The last part of the session was wet and our car isn’t at its best in those kinds of conditions. Any lap that would have gone well at the end of the session would have helped us, but if it had stayed dry, it would have been even better. Tomorrow is another day, so we just have to wait and see what happens. »
