Räikkönen at Ferrari in 2014? The Scuderia denies it
Kimi Räikkönen is a sought-after driver for the 2014 Formula 1 season, with Lotus and Red Bull showing interest. Recently, the Finnish press also revealed Ferrari's interest in their former driver, a rumor that the Maranello team quickly denied.
Kimi Räikkönen seems to have plenty of options for next season. The Lotus team is doing everything it can to convince the Finn, who is also on Red Bull’s shortlist to replace Mark Webber. The latest team to show interest in Räikkönen is Ferrari.
At the end of July, rumors suggested an offer from Scuderia to its former driver, information quickly denied by the Italian team. In recent days, the rumor has picked up again with the Finnish newspaper Ilta Sanomat reporting that Räikkönen was on Ferrari’s radar according to its internal sources.
It did not take long for Ferrari to respond once again to put an end to these rumors, with a spokesperson quoted by BBC Sport deeming these rumors unfounded before adding that at the moment, Ferrari is not really concerned with the driver transfer market.
The Maranello team seems to fully trust Felipe Massa, who knows that his seat is in danger and that he must do better as he recently explained to Autosport: « The results will decide if I stay or if I change teams. The possibility of staying is definitely there, but the most important thing is the results. I am happy with the way I am driving in terms of pace – both in qualifying and in race. »
