Friday: Still work to do for Mercedes
The Mercedes drivers were discovering the new Pirelli tires today, and although it went rather well, there is still work to be done for the German team as some of its rivals seem faster than them in Hungary.
Lewis Hamilton – 13th and 6th:
« We did a lot of laps with the new tires today, which was positive, and it gives us a lot of information to study. We arrived this weekend a little behind due to not having tested the new tires. The balance seems different and we need to work on the settings, but we learned throughout the day, made adjustments, and will make more for tomorrow. It’s hard to know how this weekend will go for us. Others seem fast here but we usually manage to get a bit more in qualifying so we’ll see how it goes tomorrow. »
Nico Rosberg – 8th and 7th.
« It was a busy day for us, and we learned a lot during the two practice sessions. We know it’s tricky for our car in these hot conditions, and we also tested the new tires for the first time today. I’m delighted with the progress made, but some other teams seem fast here, so we have work to do. Tire overheating is still an issue, but I’m confident we can find good settings and hopefully secure a good result this weekend. »
