Kevin Magnussen could see himself in F1 in 2014

Kevin Magnussen completed nearly 600 kilometers this week at Silverstone driving the McLaren MP4-28 during the young driver tests on Wednesday. The Danish driver, a member of the Woking team’s young driver program, hopes to be able to drive in Formula 1 next year.

Kevin, son of Jan Magnussen, former McLaren (1 Grand Prix) and Stewart (24 Grand Prix) driver, completed an additional 100 laps in an F1 car this week, and Formula 1 is a clear goal for him as he told journalists at Silverstone, quoted by GrandPrix247: « I feel ready for Formula 1. I have a championship to compete in the World Series by Renault, so I’m staying focused on that, and once I’ve finished this championship, I’ll see where I am. »

The young man, aged 20, had the opportunity to drive with McLaren last year in Abu Dhabi, and he feels he has progressed between these two tests: « Yes [I have improved], because I work with the team even when I’m not participating in tests, but I’m constantly learning. I’m learning more and more about the technical side of F1 and that’s very important when you’re doing tests. You need to have knowledge of the car, and that is constantly improving, so obviously, I feel better this time than the last time. »

But before thinking about F1, which he hopes to join in 2014, Magnussen is currently fully focused on his quest for the title in Formula Renault 3.5 with the French team DAMS: « We have a plan where I have to try to win the championship [in World Series] this year and then hopefully I’ll have a chance in Formula 1 somewhere. We all know it’s not easy and you have to adapt to the circumstances and do your best at all times and see where it takes you. »
