Friday: Ferrari aims higher for the race

After a weekend where the F138's performance was lacking, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa have regained the performance they knew before the British weekend. Despite their issues on a fast lap, the Ferrari drivers know their car is faster in the race and are counting on this characteristic.

Friday: Ferrari aims higher for the race

Fernando Alonso – 22nd and 6th

Today’s day went better than last Friday, and even though we still have a long way to go, in general, it seems that we have taken a step forward and regained a level of competitiveness we had before Silverstone. One of the positive points was the behavior of the tires, which worked well today and did not create any problems. Unfortunately, we lost this morning’s session due to a programming issue with the electronic control unit, which was then changed. This cut our program in half, and tonight, we will have to do everything we can to make up for it, but we already have an idea of the changes to make, as Mercedes, Red Bull, and Lotus are ahead of us, and we want something better than being the third or fourth team in the standings.

Felipe Massa – 6th and 7th

« It was a particularly busy day, as we had a lot of things to test, and we completed as many laps as possible to finish our program. We split our time between evaluating the Pirelli tires and testing long runs. There is a big difference between the two compounds due to the high degradation of the soft tires compared to the mediums, and it will be interesting to see the influence this will have on the race. As usual, choosing the right strategy will be very important. Qualifying is always our weak point, as we are usually less competitive than during the race, which is why we will do our best to start as high as possible on the grid. On a long run, the car behaves well, and this makes me very confident for Sunday. »
