Friday: Lotus Confident for the Rest of the Weekend
While Lotus seemed off the pace in Britain, both drivers wanted to show the true level of their car, which appears to be right behind Mercedes and Red Bull. Romain Grosjean and Kimi Räikkönen are confident for the rest of the weekend, with an E21 that seems to suit them.
Kimi Räikkönen – 5th and 5th
« We tried several things today; some were good, others not, so we have a good idea of what to do tomorrow. Our pace on long runs wasn’t as good as it could have been with other settings, but the changes required would have taken too long to accomplish during the session. But now we know which settings work better, so it’s not a problem. The rear tires don’t seem very different, but we already knew that from testing them in Canada. »
Romain Grosjean – 9th and 4th
We had a pretty good day today. We used the [double DRS] system this morning to gather some data, before returning to our previous package for the afternoon, where we played a bit with the settings, but we spent the majority of our time analyzing the new tires. We’ve made a step forward with the improvements that were brought to Silverstone, and we’re seeing the benefits here as well. Getting the tires up to temperature can be a bit tricky for us in cool conditions, but today it wasn’t an issue, which is a good sign. It’s only practice sessions, but the car feels good, so we’ll see what we can do tomorrow.
