Friday: Toro Rosso hopes to improve overnight
While the Toro Rosso had performed very well during the last three Grand Prix, the small Scuderia appears slightly behind this weekend, as the two drivers expected. However, both men believe they can improve by tomorrow.
Daniel Ricciardo – 13th and 12th
We had a fairly calm day without any issues on the car or with the tires, and I managed to do quite a few laps. We don’t seem to have quite the same pace as last week at Silverstone, where we had a good weekend. It would be nice to continue like that, but we knew this track wouldn’t be favorable to us. I need to see our competitors’ lap times to get a better idea of our place in the hierarchy. My last sector seemed quite good, but we are struggling a bit in the first sector, which consists of only a few corners, so we need to find some time in that area. My long runs seemed good, but there is a small margin for improvement, and if we can come up with some ideas to fine-tune our settings overnight, I think we can improve tomorrow.
Jean-Eric Vergne – 14th and 13th
« It was my first time on this track driving a Formula 1, but it didn’t affect my day. The different types of tires are more or less at the level of performance we were expecting, and as for safety, we haven’t seen any signs of problems, which is a good thing. In terms of the car’s pure performance, we need to work on it tonight since we are not where we want to be. Even though we knew that the Nürburgring setup was not going to suit us, I am reasonably optimistic that we can find a few small points to change on the car to improve the rest of the weekend. »
