Australia could finally open the 2014 season
While it seemed we were heading towards a first Grand Prix in Bahrain in 2014, Australia could ultimately retain the opening race of the Formula 1 World Championship next season.
While the Kingdom of Bahrain seemed to be the favorite to open the 2014 Formula 1 season, Australia might ultimately keep its role as the opening Grand Prix next season.
The World Motor Sport Council met late last week, but unlike in previous years, no draft of the 2014 calendar was unveiled. Ron Walker, promoter of the Australian Grand Prix, expressed confidence to the Australian Financial Review: “We will be the first race [in 2014]. Everything is going according to plan for that.”
The Middle Eastern country seemed to hold the lead to host the last session of private pre-season testing and therefore the first race of the season, but even Bernie Ecclestone revealed to journalist Christian Sylt that Bahrain will not open the 2014 season: « No, we are not going to make Bahrain the first race next year. I think we will keep things as they are. »
