Sunday: Rosberg thrilled to win at Silverstone
Nico Rosberg secured his second victory of the year at the end of a highly eventful 2013 British Grand Prix. The German driver showcases the current good form of the Mercedes team. Lewis Hamilton, who suffered a tire issue, made a brilliant comeback from last place to finish 4th at the checkered flag.
Nico Rosberg – 1st:
« It’s a great moment for me and our team to win in the cradle of motorsport at Silverstone. We have such great momentum in our Silver Arrows team, and I am proud to be part of it. This victory is for every person involved in the design of our car. It’s unfortunate for Lewis today, and I also had a problem with my tires, but I was lucky thanks to the intervention of the safety car. It was so special to win today, particularly in front of the team members and their families, as our factories are only 10 minutes from the track. The race was really exciting. I had to manage my tires very carefully, and I was told to avoid the curbs. In the end, it was tough to keep Mark [Webber] behind and manage my tires, but I was able to maintain my position and secure a great victory for us. Now, we can focus on our next home race next weekend at the Nürburgring. »
Lewis Hamilton – 4th:
« Obviously, I’m disappointed with today’s race and I would have loved to give a victory to all the British fans present here at Silverstone. The race started well for us today; I was comfortable in the lead and managing my pace. The tire issue is really unfortunate, and from that point on, it was mostly about giving it my all and fighting to climb back up. I made some great overtakes and with one more lap, I might have been able to pass Fernando [Alonso] and finish on the podium. All in all, this 4th place is gratifying after being last at the 10th lap. It’s a good result for the team today, congratulations to Nico [Rosberg] who came out of a tough situation and secured a win for us. We are now in 2nd place in the constructors’ championship, which is a nice reward for everyone in our factories not far from here. »
