Saturday: Vettel could not beat the Mercedes
Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel did try to sneak onto the front row, but they failed to beat the Mercedes drivers. However, both men remain confident about their chances of making their Red Bulls shine in the race tomorrow.
Sebastian Vettel – 3rd and 3rd:
« We will see what happens tomorrow. It’s a long race, but I’m happy today. Either Lewis found a shortcut or he has something special here, it was a phenomenal lap and he wasn’t within reach today. I was really pleased with my lap at the end, it was very close with Mark as well. We did what we could for the team and it’s always nice to do well in qualifying, especially here – qualifying is a lot of fun and I enjoy the fast corners. We will see how we manage our tires tomorrow and we will save them. I’m happy for the team today, our factory is close to the circuit, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow. »
Mark Webber – 4th and 4th:
We were fighting with the Mercedes for the front row, but they were on another level as has been the case in recent races. It’s disappointing to be edged out by Seb by just a hundredth at the end, it was very close. I was happy with the first part of my lap, but I could have done better in the last sector. We have a good balance in qualifying and race. It should be an interesting race, we can achieve a good result.
