Matt Morris leaves Sauber to join McLaren

McLaren recently lost Paddy Lowe, who decided to join the Mercedes team—he is making his first appearance with the German team this weekend in Great Britain. However, McLaren quickly found a replacement in Tim Goss, who has already been with the team for over 20 years.

However, following Lowe’s departure, the Woking team reorganized and decided to incorporate a new element into its organizational structure, Matt Morris. The latter, the chief designer of the Sauber F1 team, who notably designed the C32, has decided to leave the Swiss team with immediate effect.

Martin Whitmarsh, the director of the McLaren team, confirmed the information on the microphone of Sky Sports: “He is coming to McLaren. Matt is going to lead our design team. It is probably something that Sauber should announce, but I am not going to deny it.” Sam Michael, the sporting director of the Woking team, also confirmed the arrival of his former colleague from Williams: “He will clearly be able to help us strengthen our engineering.”

For the moment, no information has leaked regarding Morris’s start at McLaren, but it seems he might be brought on to work on the 2015 car which will mark Honda’s return as an engine supplier, and possibly also on next season’s car.
