Horner believes it is too early to judge Vergne and Ricciardo

While Jean-Eric Vergne has gained the upper hand over his teammate at Toro Rosso in the last two Grand Prix, in Monaco and Canada, Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull, calls for caution and believes it is still too early to make a judgment on the two drivers regarding their potential integration into Red Bull.

Horner believes it is too early to judge Vergne and Ricciardo

The summer period is conducive to rumors about driver transfers for the following year. However, there is one team likely to attract all the attention, and that is Red Bull. Although Sebastian Vettel has been confirmed with the Austrian team until 2015, the position currently held by Mark Webber is drawing interest.

For the Red Bull team, it would be logical that if Webber departs, one of the two Toro Rosso drivers would take his place. Thus, the stakes are high for Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne. The latter recently made a mark with two excellent points finishes in Monaco and Montreal, and it didn’t take much for some to already envision the Frenchman behind the wheel of a Red Bull for next season.

Christian Horner, sporting director of the triple world champion constructors, however, believes that it is a bit too early to draw conclusions about the situation: « He [Vergne, ed.] had an excellent weekend. He drove very well in qualifying and had a great race. He deserves his result. I think both drivers are very competent and they feed off each other. They each have their weekends, and it’s very interesting to see two young talents flourish. But it is still too early to talk about anything else. We have all the information we need by working with them, and we are following them closely. »

The leaders of Red Bull and Mark Webber should meet during the summer to decide whether they will continue their collaboration or not.
