Friday: Still work to be done for Vergne and Toro Rosso
Even though the day went rather well for Toro Rosso, with a notably competitive STR8 in the rain, Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne know there is still a lot to do, especially for the Frenchman who is not entirely happy with his car's setup.
Daniel Ricciardo – 6th and 10th:
« On the wet this morning, we didn’t look too bad, even though you always feel like you can be faster. We seemed to be where we needed to be in the pack and I was pleased with the way the car immediately handled coming out of the pits, so it’s always good when you feel like you won’t have to create a whole new car to be on pace. On the dry this afternoon, after my first stints with the prototype tire and the mediums, I felt like we could extract more from the car, so we made a significant change which I think played in our favor. I was pleased with my stint on the super-softs but we still have work to do, as there is more to come. Overall, a good Friday, a good start to the weekend. »
Jean-Eric Vergne – 13th and 15th:
« This morning’s session was useful to learn how the intermediate and wet tires behave, as we might have rain for the next two days. The car responded well in the rain. This afternoon, we did our usual Friday work evaluating the tires and everything else. I wasn’t happy with the way my car was behaving, so we need to look at the data now and sort that out. We seem to be generally where we need to be, so as long as we can make progress tomorrow, we can have a good weekend. »
