Friday: A good day for Mercedes drivers
Even though the day was not easy, with the rain this morning and a still quite "green" track in the afternoon, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were quite satisfied with the performance of their Mercedes on the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit in Montreal.
Lewis Hamilton – 16th and 2nd:
« Today went well for us and I am delighted that it dried this afternoon, it allowed us to have a good run. The track is clearly not yet at its full potential but we were able to start analyzing the tires on long stints and work to get them to perform for the first lap. The car felt good all day and I tried different things during both sessions which allowed me to feel a bit more comfortable, so that’s positive. Hopefully, qualifying will be dry tomorrow and we can have a good day. »
Nico Rosberg – 7th and 5th:
« The first session was interesting, and we learned a lot when the track was drying. This afternoon, we wanted to understand how the new development tire works: I had some issues getting the front tires up to temperature and also flat-spotted one during one of my stints. Overall, it was a good day, although I need to see how my pace is on long stints compared to others. The track was really cool today, and it was a challenge, but I felt comfortable in both types of conditions. So let’s hope it will be a good weekend for us again. »
