Ford is considering a return to F1 as an engine supplier

The arrival of a new engine in Formula 1 in 2014 seems to attract engine manufacturers. Indeed, after the announcement of Honda’s return, another former engine manufacturer might be interested: Ford.

Indeed, while Toyota and BMW have denied any desire to return to F1 in the immediate future, according to Speed Week, the American automobile manufacturer could be a candidate to supply 1.6L V6 engines to Formula 1 teams.

Ford is not an unknown brand in F1, indeed, the manufacturer was present in Formula 1 between 1967 and 2004, as an engine supplier via engines produced by Cosworth – Ford’s racing division until 2004. Ford even became a constructor between 2000 and 2004 following the purchase of the Stewart Grand Prix team, renamed Jaguar Racing.

In 2004, after five unfruitful years, Ford finally decided to pull out by selling its team to Red Bull, who renamed it Red Bull Racing and achieved the success we see today, and also by selling Cosworth. However, the introduction of a new engine block in F1 seems to have made the Dearborn, Michigan brand reconsider, although we’ll need to wait for an official response to know if this will materialize or not.
