Grosjean: “It’s bad luck”

Romain Grosjean could not see the checkered flag at the Spanish Grand Prix, as the French driver suffered a mechanical failure on his Lotus while he seemed poised to achieve a good result.

Grosjean is disappointed but doesn’t dwell too much as he shared during his post-race press conference in the Barcelona paddock: “It’s bad luck. It’s motorsport, there’s mechanics involved, you have to know how to accept it. It’s a part that broke, we’ve never seen it break at that spot. So we’re going to investigate at the factory, analyze, understand, and try to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”

The Lotus driver added that it suddenly broke in the middle of turn 10, when I got back on the throttle, the rear wheel came loose, the lower wishbone snapped clean, and after that, the wheel did whatever it wanted.

Before this issue, not everything had gone perfectly, but things seemed interesting for Grosjean and the Lotus team: « The start wasn’t great at all, we lost quite a few places, but afterwards the car was good. I wasn’t pushing behind the Force India, it was holding up. I was waiting, I knew anyway that I had to wait for the tire degradation moment to make a move. So I was there patiently waiting for the others to stop and then take the opportunity. »

The Frenchman knows he has a good race car with the E21, but what he hopes for now is better reliability to be regularly at the front: « Yes, the car is performing well, but now we need to finish the races, to no longer have problems. It’s certainly positive, there’s plenty of positive to take from the weekend with the team, we’re continuing to progress, that’s good, but now, out of 6 [editor’s note: actually 5] races, there have been 4 where we’ve had issues in the championship, and that’s a lot. »
