Saturday: A very good race is expected at Lotus
After securing a double podium in Bahrain starting from ninth and eleventh positions, the Lotus team experienced a better qualifying session in Spain. Both drivers are counting on the race pace of the E21 to climb up the rankings.
Kimi Räikkönen – 2nd and 4th
« It’s more or less all we could do today. I didn’t make any mistakes on my last lap, and that was all there was to get out of the car. I’m not saying it was a perfect lap, but I don’t think we would have been much higher if it had been. The Mercedes, as we’ve seen before, are very fast in qualifying, but hopefully we can race at the same pace as them. Our race pace has been quite good since the beginning of the year, so let’s try to get on the podium. I will need to make a good start and then see what happens. »
Romain Grosjean – 4th and 7th [6th on the grid]
« We did a good job today in qualifying, but I made a mistake at the first corner on my last lap, so we decided to come back in to preserve the tires. Without that, I think we could have done a little better and maybe positioned ourselves a row or two ahead. I was satisfied with the car and all the work done since Friday. For tomorrow, we will see what happens, as the competition is very tight. As we have seen, the conditions are variable this weekend, and the tires should once again be the key. »
