Bianchi is eager to drive in Barcelona
Jules Bianchi is eager to drive again in Barcelona this weekend after a three-week break following Bahrain. The Frenchman is counting on some changes and new features on his car to stand out in the race.
Jules Bianchi took advantage of the three-week “break” between the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Spanish Grand Prix, taking place this weekend, to recharge, but the Marussia driver is eager to get back on track, as he told us during a press conference today: « I rested, trained, and we tried to see a little bit what we could improve, it went well. I’m happy to be able to drive again tomorrow. »
The French driver also revealed that he had an issue with his seat in Bahrain but hopes it will be resolved in Barcelona: « I had an issue [in Bahrain]. Apparently, my seat was tight under the hip, pressing on the iliac nerve and basically paralyzing my left foot for a long time, because it started doing that from the 15th lap, so it wasn’t a great feeling. So there you go, we’ve tried to fix it and we’ll see how it goes tomorrow. »
Like its rivals, Marussia has introduced new developments on their car this weekend for the start of the European season, and while Bianchi is somewhat optimistic, he awaits the verdict from the track: « We have a bit of everything [in terms of new features]. I would say it seems quite encouraging, so we’ll see tomorrow, but once again, we can only see on the track. On paper, it’s good, but we’ll see on the track how it turns out. »
Bianchi is going to race on a track he knows well, particularly from GP2, and he believes this should help him: « Here, we know the track well. It’s the first time since the beginning of the season that I know a track well like here. There was Bahrain, but it was a bit special for us, we had some issues. Here, it should be a good race for us. »
He also believes that racing in Barcelona will allow the Marussia team to appreciate the benefits brought by the new developments: « It will be a good way to compare, even if the track won’t be exactly the same since it was cooler during the winter tests, but we have a good baseline, we know where we were 3 months ago, now we’ll see where we are. »
