Lauda advises Red Bull to hire Räikkönen in 2014
As the future of Mark Webber with Red Bull remains uncertain for the next season, just like Kimi Räikkönen's situation with Lotus, Niki Lauda believes that the Austrian team should consider the Finn if they wish to change their driver lineup.
As in previous seasons, Mark Webber has only signed a one-year contract with Red Bull team, but the recent clash with Sebastian Vettel during the Malaysian Grand Prix has created rumors about the Australian’s future outside the Milton Keynes team.
Kimi Räikkönen has been cited as a possible contender for Webber’s seat for 2014, and Niki Lauda, chairman of the board of the Mercedes AMG team, believes that the Austrian team should sign the 2007 world champion: “He is sensational, a good person, and clearly on the same level as Vettel, Alonso, and Hamilton. Kimi is clearly a title contender. If I were Red Bull and wanted to change something with the drivers, then I would certainly choose Kimi. He is by far the best driver on the market,” the triple Austrian world champion told Bild.
Räikkönen has remained vague about his future in 2014 so far, and Eric Boullier told the official Formula 1 site that the Finn could extend with Lotus if he wishes: « It’s not a question of how I’m going to keep him. It’s a question of whether he wants to stay. »
