Sunday: Satisfaction is in order at Marussia
Jules Bianchi had a great race in Shanghai, finishing in 15th position ahead of both Caterhams and his teammate. Even though the Grand Prix was not easy, he is satisfied with his performance and the outcome of the race. Max Chilton also experienced a challenging race but is pleased to have finished ahead of Giedo Van der Garde.
Jules Bianchi – 15th:
« I am really delighted to finish in 15th place today, but it was a difficult race and to be honest, I was happy to see the checkered flag after a tough final stint where I had to manage the tires. I got off to a good start and held my position for a while before Pic was able to pass me when we did a slightly longer first stint. I spent the next two stints catching up before being able to regain my position after my third stop.
Then, I was alongside Maldonado and it was encouraging to be able to maintain the gap with him for a while. Towards the end of the race, however, I had to focus on tire management while keeping the gap with Pic behind me. Those last laps felt like an eternity, but we achieved a good result in the end.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable race – clearly one of the most challenging so far – and I think we learned a lot about the tires today. I think we’ve taken another good step forward and it will be important to continue this way in Bahrain before we focus on what we’ll bring to Europe.
Max Chilton – 17th:
« Once again, I think we have good reasons to focus on the positive today because the race went well for me and the car seemed good. I am delighted that we are ending our stay in China on a good note despite the few difficulties encountered.
I didn’t get the best start, but things improved during the race, and it was reflected in my times compared to Van der Garde. So looking at what was a good race and also the signs from free practice, things are starting to fall into place, I think.
We achieved another good result for the team and demonstrated that we can quickly understand and solve problems to reach the right outcome. I hope we will have less complicated moments in Bahrain so we can start the weekend well and then maintain this momentum.
