Sunday: Ricciardo offers valuable points to Toro Rosso
Daniel Ricciardo started from 7th place in Shanghai and finished the race in the same position, earning 6 valuable points for Scuderia Toro Rosso. Jean-Eric Vergne had a more challenging race, notably involving a collision with Mark Webber. He finished outside the points in 12th place.
Daniel Ricciardo – 7th:
« I am really thrilled to score my first points of the season and to confirm my performance during qualifying. Yesterday afternoon, I stayed calm, knowing that the real work would take place today. The last time I qualified so well, I was sixth in Bahrain last year and failed to score points, so today, I wanted to show people what I’m capable of, so it’s nice for me to have had a good race and it’s good for the team as well, which has worked very hard for this. Obviously, the early stop to change the front wing affected our plans, and towards the end, Massa’s Ferrari was getting bigger and bigger in front of me. So yes, maybe I could have done a bit better, but for now, I’ll settle for this 7th place. From the beginning of the season, we’ve had a lot of personnel changes and it takes a bit of time to find cohesion, and this weekend, it seems that everyone has managed to find their place after two first roller-coaster race weekends, but now I expect us to continue our momentum. »
Jean-Eric Vergne – 12th:
« I think that Mark (Webber) couldn’t have passed from where he tried, and I’m not even sure he was trying to overtake me. Clearly, I didn’t even know he was there. Unfortunately, the impact made me spin and damaged my floor. From there, I lost a lot of downforce. It wasn’t a good race from that moment on, having lost a lot of time and driving a damaged car. It wasn’t a good weekend because things didn’t go smoothly from the start. However, as I said yesterday, the car’s pace has improved since Malaysia, as we saw with what Daniel was able to do today. That’s why I remain optimistic and look forward to Bahrain. »
