Saturday: Still work to be done for Williams
There were no Williams drivers in Q3, Valtteri Bottas was even eliminated in Q1, while Pastor Maldonado stopped in Q2. Although the Finnish driver admits he failed to qualify well, his teammate believes he gave his all and that there's still work to do, alongside the entire Grove team, to make the FW35 more competitive.
Pastor Maldonado – 13th and 15th:
I extracted everything I could from the car today. I was hoping for a better result, but I couldn’t get everything in order in Q2. This is not where we want to be, so we need to work hard. We have already worked very hard, but we need time to turn the situation around. We have a lot of new tires for tomorrow, and the tires are very sensitive here, so that could make the race interesting. Anything can happen tomorrow, and we will do our best.
Valtteri Bottas – 15th and 17th:
« We went out quite late in Q1 because everyone else also left late and we were waiting for the track to improve. However, having only one lap to get everything right made it a difficult situation. The wind made it tricky to get a perfect lap because I was pushing hard, and it’s a new experience for me to have only one lap to qualify. The conditions were different from free practice 3, and I didn’t get the most out of this qualifying session. Now, we need to focus on having the best strategy for the race to make the most of the new tires we have. »
