Mercedes will supply its V6 Turbo to Force India from 2014

The Sahara Force India team has just announced the signing of a contract with Mercedes-Benz for the supply of the power unit that will come into effect in Formula 1 from the 2014 season.

The Indian team, powered by a Mercedes V8 engine since 2009, will therefore continue its partnership with the German engine supplier. The signed agreement is a long-term agreement, although the Silverstone team did not wish to specify the exact duration.

This contract between Force India and Mercedes therefore includes the supply of engines, energy recovery systems (KERS and HERS), as well as the transmission and associated components. Also included in this partnership is the supply of gearboxes and hydraulic systems.

Vijay Mallya, the head of the Sahara Force India team, expressed his delight with the signing of this agreement with Mercedes: “Our new contract with Mercedes-Benz for the coming years is the most significant in the history of Sahara Force India. With the introduction of new regulations on the power unit starting next year, I cannot think of a better working partner as Formula 1 enters an exciting new era. This agreement provides us with the long-term stability we need, allowing us to continue our progress towards the top of the Formula 1 grid.”
