Hülkenberg at Ferrari… just a rumor according to the driver
The transfer this season of Nico Hülkenberg from Force India to Sauber continues to fuel comments. Indeed, the Swiss team is powered by Ferrari, which for some could place the German driver within the Scuderia as early as 2014. However, he gives no credit to this theory.
Author of a strong end to the 2012 season with Force India, with which he almost won his first race at the Brazilian Grand Prix, Nico Hülkenberg surprised many by announcing his signing with the Sauber team.
The Swiss structure did indeed achieve some podiums and standout performances in 2012, unlike Force India. However, this transfer does not seem to constitute a real advancement in Hülkenberg’s career.
This is why some observers of the discipline believe that this choice could condition the near future of the German driver. Sauber being powered by Ferrari, it didn’t take long for rumors to suggest Hülkenberg might join the reds in 2014. However, the driver refutes this idea: « I don’t feel concerned about it at all. I don’t talk about the contents of my contracts and, anyway, I haven’t even raced once for Sauber yet. Of course, I hear the rumors, and it’s always a form of recognition, but all of this leaves me indifferent. »
The driver’s objective is well established at Sauber and in the upcoming season: « I am fully focused on the season ahead and, first and foremost, on the first race in Melbourne. »
To the question of whether a driver of his stature and level should aim for a seat at Ferrari, the German responds: « But that doesn’t mean I’m going there! »
