Alonso, Pérez and Ricciardo underwent doping control!
Doping and the fight against it are not topics commonly addressed in Formula 1. However, there are indeed tests conducted on the drivers. Fernando Alonso, Sergio Pérez, and Daniel Ricciardo have been involved recently.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) coordinates and supervises the fight against doping across all sports disciplines. Formula 1 is no exception, as it is expected that any driver can be tested during the Grand Prix, as well as outside of competition.
In this regard, three drivers were thus supervised on Tuesday morning by the AMA. These are Fernando Alonso, Sergio Pérez, and Daniel Ricciardo, who all promptly announced this news with pride on their Twitter accounts.
The Spaniard from Ferrari admits to having been woken up at 6:42 a.m. on Tuesday morning to take his test, just like the new McLaren driver who mentions having taken a surprise urine test very early in the morning.
In July 2012, Alonso already mentioned being subject to testing: « We must follow the same procedure as cyclists, for example. We have to inform the FIA where we are all 365 days of the year to be able to carry out anti-doping tests. I have already done it several times. »
Daniel Ricciardo, also a victim of a rude awakening for a doping test, nonetheless finds the situation amusing: « I did a drug test in the early hours of the morning. Suddenly, urinating in your own house becomes difficult with someone looking over your shoulder. »
In 2012, MotorsInside addressed the topic of doping in the Retour de volant column. You can find the article here: Doping in Formula 1, between myth and realities.
