Mark Webber still feels young and is not thinking about retirement!
Even though he will be the oldest driver on the grid this season, Mark Webber is not thinking about retirement yet. He still has the ambition to become world champion and believes he still has the ability to do so.
Since the final retirement of Michael Schumacher at the end of last season, Mark Webber, at 36 years old, has become the oldest driver on the grid. The question of a possible retirement frequently comes to mind when discussing the Australian.
But this idea doesn’t seem to be on the agenda for the Red Bull driver: « I don’t see 2013 as my last year in Formula 1. I still feel like I’m 25, even though I’m not anymore. I don’t feel tired when I drive my single-seater. I feel great. » he told the British newspaper The Sun.
The fact that Mark Webber and his Red Bull team only link their future for one-year periods might suggest that the team perhaps wants to change drivers at the end of this season, which the Australian also refutes: « Over the past four years, I’ve signed one-year contracts, and I’ve always fought for the championship title. »
The Australian has other criteria besides age to judge a driver’s experience: « I am the oldest, but not the most experienced. Jenson Button has raced more races than I have. But that means absolutely nothing. If Michael Schumacher were still on the starting grids, how would I feel any different? »
Mark Webber has been driving for the Red Bull team since the 2007 season, and he notably finished third in the championship twice in 2010 and 2011 as the best results of his career.
