Razia already in danger at Marussia?
While it was initially planned at Marussia for both drivers, Max Chilton and Luiz Razia, to share the testing days in Barcelona, the latter did not take part in a single session all week. A payment default by one of his sponsors is reportedly the cause.
Luiz Razia should have been at the wheel of the Marussia MR02 for at least two test days on the Barcelona circuit last week. Instead, the young 23-year-old Brazilian had to let his teammate run during the entire tests.
A situation explained by a financial imbroglio between one of Razia’s sponsors and the Anglo-Russian team. According to the driver, however, the situation is about to be resolved and would not compromise his commitment: « In the contract, there are parties with responsibilities. We trust them but we have some conflicts. »
Razia attempts to explain the situation a little better, which cost him precious time as a young driver at the wheel of his single-seater: « We did things correctly. It’s completely out of our control. We will resolve this issue, we just need a few days. »
The Brazilian still wants to clarify a point regarding the excuse made by Marussia to justify his absence on the Spanish track. The team stated that they preferred to have Chilton drive for the entirety of the tests to maintain consistency in driver feedback, which Razia claims is false: « I would never have signed a contract with such a disadvantage for myself. »
No other comment has been made by Marussia, but this situation already seems compromising, or at least handicapping, for Luiz Razia.
