Eric Boullier talks about the challenge of 2014
Eric Boullier, team principal of team Lotus, held a press conference yesterday afternoon in Barcelona. It was an opportunity for the Frenchman to discuss the upcoming 2014 season.
Next season, Formula 1 will experience significant changes in its regulations. The challenge for the teams will thus be to maintain a sufficient level of development to stay competitive with their rivals in 2013, while quickly turning their attention to 2014 to ensure they are not left behind next year.
At Lotus, the 2014 project is already underway, and for team principal Eric Boullier, it represents a challenge that will define the performance of his team not only for 2014 but also for the following seasons. It’s essential to start on a good foundation. « To be honest, it will be a challenge. Getting the engine and the car to work together will be a challenge. Like most big teams, we are already working on 2014, and we want to allocate as many resources as possible quickly to the next car. I don’t want to sacrifice next year’s car because it will serve as the foundation for the coming years, » explains the Frenchman to journalists present in the Barcelona paddock.
The best example undoubtedly comes from Red Bull, whose RB9 is ultimately just yet another evolution of the concept introduced in 2009 during the last major change in the F1 World Championship regulations.
