Caterham unveils the CT03
Caterham was the last team to unveil its single-seater, named CT03, before the start of testing in Jerez.
The Jerez tests began this morning and ten of the eleven Formula 1 teams presented their 2013 cars before the start of these tests – only the Williams 2013, named FW35, is missing in Jerez. Like last year, Caterham – despite its “new team” status – managed to design and build its car in time for the first tests.
The CT03 was presented this morning in front of an audience of journalists and photographers in front of the Caterham garage in the pit lane of the Jerez de la Frontera circuit. The two drivers from the Leafield team, Giedo Van der Garde and Charles Pic, were present and graciously obliged the photographers’ requests.
Caterham has decided to change its driver lineup for this season, saying goodbye to Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov, and welcoming Charles Pic and Giedo Van der Garde. Both drivers have less experience than their predecessors, but they are not entirely new either. Although Van der Garde is starting in F1, he participated in several Friday sessions in 2012, as well as young driver tests, and was the team’s reserve driver in 2012, so he is in his element. Charles Pic, on the other hand, is starting his second season in Formula 1 after a debut year with Marussia, and he will be able to use that experience to try to improve on 2012.
