Rory Byrne is working on the 2014 Ferrari
The South African engineer, Rory Byrne, who was part of Ferrari's "dream team" during their successful period in the 2000s, is back with the Scuderia. He is currently working on the design of the 2014 car, the first under the era of the V6 Turbo engine.
Rory Byrne is not a stranger to the Ferrari team. The South African engineer indeed participated in one of the most successful periods of the Scuderia, between 1996 and 2006, when the red cars secured a significant number of victories, including five driver titles (with Michael Schumacher) and six constructors’ titles.
After retiring at the end of 2006, Byrne nevertheless supervised the 2007 car, which won the driver’s title with Kimi Räikkönen, while by the end of the year there were talks of a possible return as a consultant for the 2012 season.
Today, at the dawn of a new technical era for Formula 1, with the introduction of V6 turbo engines and new aerodynamic standards in 2014, the engineer has been recalled by Ferrari to participate in the development of the future car. The German magazine Auto Motor und Sport reports that Byrne is working full steam on the project. According to the engineer, the new Ferrari F138 is a beautiful car but it is child’s play compared to what awaits the team in 2014.
In December last year, Ferrari had reorganized its technical department to prepare for 2014, tasking Fabio Montecchi with the development of the 2014 car, building on the innovations introduced that year.
