Petrov is not in contact with Marussia
Following Timo Glock's withdrawal from Marussia, a spot remains open for the 2013 season. While Vitaly Petrov's Russian nationality could have been an obvious link with the team, the driver's entourage denies any contact with the latter. However, other names are being put forward to replace the German driver.
While the separation between Timo Glock and Marussia was officially announced yesterday, the vacant seat left by the German is highly coveted. Among drivers who do not yet have a contract for 2013, Russian Vitaly Petrov could be, thanks to his nationality, a top choice for Marussia.
However, Oksana Kosachenko, the manager of the Russian pilot, denies any contact with the team: « Petrov’s situation depends on the decisions that will be made by Caterham. We have no contact with Marussia.
The situation of Marussia is very clear. The decision to terminate Timo Glock’s contract, which was supposed to run until 2014, was made following the financial and economic difficulties it is facing. Therefore, it would, in all likelihood, be looking for a driver who could provide a substantial budget.
Vitaly Petrov could have financial support from Russia, but not to a sufficient extent to be able to claim the open seat at Marussia alongside the British driver Max Chilton, who was confirmed at the end of last year. Oksana Kosachenko had recently denied the arrival of new partners during the winter.
Among the names that are coming back insistently to occupy this seat, there are the Spaniard Jaime Alguersuari, the Swiss Sebastian Buemi and the Brazilians Bruno Senna and Luis Razia. The latter had publicly expressed his surprise following Max Chilton’s commitment, who had been preferred over him at the time at Marussia to support Glock in F1. The situation could indeed be different for him today.
