A new race engineer for Webber in 2013
The Red Bull Racing team announced that Mark Webber would have a new race engineer this season, in the person of Simon Rennie.
Mark Webber has been driving for the Red Bull Racing team since the beginning of the 2007 season and since that same year, he has been working closely with Ciaron Pilbeam, who is his race engineer. But that is going to change this year, as Pilbeam left the triple world champion team at the end of 2012 to join Lotus F1.
To replace him, the Austrian team decided to hire a defector from Lotus, Simon Rennie, who was one of Kimi Räikkönen’s two race engineers at the Lotus F1 team in 2012. Red Bull issued a statement to make it official: “We can confirm that Ciaron Pilbeam has left the team for a new position at Lotus. We are delighted to welcome Simon Rennie to Red Bull Racing, where he will be Mark Webber’s race engineer.”
If Simon Rennie retains a similar position to the one he held at Lotus, Ciarom Pilbeam, on the other hand, receives a promotion; indeed, he will serve as chief race engineer within the Lotus F1 team in 2013.
