The Brabham family wins their lawsuit
In a trial in Germany regarding the use of the Brabham name, the family of the triple Australian world champion won their case against Michael Trick and can now seriously consider returning to F1.
Following the withdrawal of the Spanish team HRT for the season, we echoed the possible return of the Brabham team to Formula 1, which had disappeared from the scene in 1992 after 30 years of presence. However, this comeback of the legendary team founded by Jack Brabham was facing a dispute over the use of the team’s name, which won four driver titles and was twice crowned in the constructors’ championship.
« At the moment, we have behind-the-scenes issues regarding name rights. It’s 98% resolved, and once it’s 100%, we’ll see what we can do, » explained David Brabham recently to TotalRace.
This thorn in the side is now a thing of the past since the Brabham family won their legal action initiated in Germany against Michael Trick, who was selling cars under the name of the legendary F1 team.
« I am happy that this situation has finally found a conclusion. It has been a long and difficult battle, but it was necessary to protect the Brabham name, which has been synonymous with innovation for 60 years. This judgment will not only favor Brabham’s future plans but also protect its third generation of drivers, Sam and Matthew, » rejoices David Brabham, who started 24 F1 Grand Prix between 1990 and 1994.
Will Brabham join the ranks of the Formula 1 grid in the near future? In any case, everything seems in place today to consider it.
