Official: Romain Grosjean confirmed at Lotus for 2013
After weeks of uncertainty, the future of Romain Grosjean is now known. The French driver will still be on the starting grids in 2013. Lotus has just confirmed his renewal alongside Kimi Räikkönen.
In 2012, Romain Grosjean made his return to F1 after a first experience in 2009. For his first true season at the highest level, the French driver alternated between good and bad performances. Achieving three podiums, he also found himself in the eye of the storm following a few on-track incidents. His future was still uncertain after Brazil, and rumors about his replacement at Enstone were circulating in the specialized press. Today, Lotus puts an end to the rumors and confirms that Grosjean will still be present in 2013. A relief for the Frenchman.
« It’s fantastic for me to continue with Lotus in 2013. Having the support of everyone here at Enstone is also superb. I am really looking forward to rewarding their trust in Australia. I’ve learned a lot from my first full season in Formula 1, and my goal is to put these lessons into practice and achieve more consistent and steady performances. Behind the scenes at Enstone, many exciting developments are underway, and the prospect of the E21 is thrilling. I’ve already had my seat molded and have talked with the people involved in the car’s construction. I really can’t wait to get into the cockpit, » explains Grosjean in a team statement.
Eric Boullier, head of the Lotus F1 Team, is also delighted with this renewal and hopes that the problems encountered in 2012 are now a thing of the past and that the best is to come for the one who won this weekend’s Race of Champions: Romain has real talent, and we are thrilled that he will continue with us for a second season. Continuing with two exceptional drivers like Romain and Kimi allows us to build on our excellent 2012 year and aim for even better results. Both drivers worked very well together during their first season of collaboration, and I think we have the potential to achieve even greater things next year. We were regulars on the podium in 2012, and we intend to continue in this direction in 2013.
