Pérez will aim for the title in 2013!

Sergio Pérez, the new McLaren driver in 2013, has big ambitions for the upcoming season. He aims for the world championship title, and he believes that the Woking-based team can help him achieve his goal: « My goal is to win the championship as early as next year with McLaren. It requires a lot of work throughout the season, so it’s very important to start my preparation well with them and try to meet their objectives. »

If some might think that his relative lack of experience at the highest level could be a handicap for the Mexican, he dismisses this argument with a wave and is convinced that McLaren can bring him the title: « As a driver, you seek challenges. It’s the best team in Formula 1, the best team in the world, so it’s certainly a very big challenge. It’s going to be a challenge but we have to do everything to succeed. The car will be competitive, and I must also be competitive right from the first race. I am really looking forward to being in Melbourne and getting to work with the team, we will start as soon as possible and I am sure we will be fighting for the championship next year. »

Of course, the former Sauber driver does not pay attention to the criticisms made about him at the end of last season that said he had lost his edge following his signing with McLaren. Indeed, Pérez did not score a single point in the last six Grand Prix, a poor performance that coincided with his signing for the British team: « Formula 1 people love to make stories about everything. They always linked that to my contract. But there is nothing to say about that. I am a very professional driver and a very loyal person. I am so grateful to Sauber and was so motivated after signing that contract that I gave even more effort than in the previous fifteen races. »

The native of Guadalajara is therefore extremely motivated for the upcoming season and logically aims for the top of the standings: « This year, McLaren had many reliability issues, and if they manage to resolve them, they will be ready to fight for the title. I think what I’m saying is realistic because the team is capable of producing a very fast car. The goals must be high. McLaren wants to win every race. »
