Ecclestone still has “a thousand ideas” in mind for F1

Bernie Ecclestone, the head financier of Formula 1, as he is customarily called, is not ready to leave his position vacant. Following comments made by Luca di Montezemolo, who claimed that the Briton might be too old to stay in the race, Ecclestone stated that he is still brimming with ideas and plans for the future of Formula 1.

For Ecclestone, age is not a problem, and he has a great reference in this matter: « I don’t feel like I’m 82. Proof is, I’m soon going to Geneva, then to Istanbul to see if we can get the Turkish Grand Prix back on the calendar and then I’ll go to the World Council. I’m 82 and no one can deny it. But some time ago I used to talk with a gentleman who was 88, when Luca [di Montezemolo] was only 40. His name was Enzo Ferrari. Believe me, at that age, he could make me shiver because he was terribly tough, incisive, and clear-minded. » he stated to the Gazzetta dello Sport.

The British businessman believes he regularly proves that he still has a place in Formula 1: « I’m not going to stop here. I still have a thousand ideas in mind. Do I look in such bad shape two weeks after the United States Grand Prix that I wanted and somehow created? »

Ecclestone also downplayed his clash with di Montezemolo: « In any case, I respect his opinion. It’s not a drama. More than once he has attacked me, but in the end, we understand each other. I bear no grudge against him. »
