For Lauda, Vettel can win without Red Bull

Since joining the Red Bull team in 2009, Sebastian Vettel has been racking up victories (25), poles (35), and titles (3). At only 25 years old, the young German driver already has an impressive track record, but according to his critics, he owes much of it to the qualities of his car designed by the brilliant Adrian Newey. What would Vettel do at the wheel of another car? For Niki Lauda, also a three-time World Champion, he would win.

« Vettel is a top driver, Lewis Hamilton is a top driver, Alonso too, just like Schumacher. You need a car and a driver. Vettel is definitely as good as Alonso but you need a better car, » explains the Austrian to CNN.

The future of Sebastian Vettel in the short term is often the subject of rumors sending him to Ferrari. For now, the German is still tied to Red Bull until the end of the 2014 season and is therefore contractually free beyond that, as his contract has not yet been renewed by the Austrian team. “We have a contract until 2014, there is nothing more,” recalls Helmut Marko in the columns of Sport Bild while some reports suggested a renewal for after 2014.

For Lauda, there is no doubt that Vettel will eventually leave the Red Bull ship, just as Lewis Hamilton decided this summer to leave McLaren for the Mercedes adventure: « He will go elsewhere. It’s normal. Skiers change skis every year; you have to change cars at least once in your career. I changed teams three or four times and kept winning. He will do the same, for sure. »

Another certainty, Sebastian Vettel will indeed be at the wheel of the RB9 next season.
