HRT is not registered for the 2013 World Championship

The news will not surprise most observers as its inevitability was strengthening day by day, but it is now practically certain that the Spanish team HRT will not be on the starting grid for the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne in 2013, or any other grid on the calendar.

The structure, owned by Thesan Capital since July 2011, was looking for a buyer and had already shown signs of weakness at the very end of the 2012 season, expressing pessimism about its ability to qualify in the United States, and then hesitating to go to Brazil. A tweet from Toni Cuquerella, the director of HRT, left little doubt yesterday about the possibility of a definitive withdrawal: « Four years ago, I suggested to a friend to make a F1 team. Today, after 3 seasons, the last page of HRT has been written. GOOD LUCK FRIENDS ».

The date of November 30, 2012, at midnight marked the end of the registration for the 2013 Formula 1 World Championship, and a document from the FIA’s website seems to confirm that HRT has not registered. Although the announcement of the withdrawal and, most certainly, the end of the team is not yet official, the reasons for hope are more than slim.

Arrival in F1 in 2010, initially registering under the name Campos Grand Prix before being renamed “Hispania Racing Team” and then HRT from 2011, the Spanish team participated in 56 Grand Prix, achieving a best result of thirteenth place during the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix, thanks to Vitantonio Liuzzi.
