Schumacher kart test driver in 2013
Michael Schumacher will remain an active driver in 2013, but not in Formula 1. The seven-time German world champion will test karts and has also left the door open for a role in the management team of Mercedes AMG.
Michael Schumacher has decided to end his second Formula 1 career, which began in early 2010 with the Mercedes team. The German driver had remained vague about his future for next year, but he recently revealed that he will be a test driver… for karts.
This is what Schumacher told the German newspaper Stern: « I have signed a contract and I will be active as a test driver. I love karting. It has always been a big thing for me. »
He will serve as a test driver for the Italian brand Tony Kart. He also mentioned indulging in a new passion, skydiving, explaining that he can’t wait to not always have to think about F1.
However, for the moment, nothing indicates that Schumacher will completely cut ties with Formula 1, as he recently explained, quoted by Autosport, that he will discuss with the Mercedes AMG team to see if a role in the management team is feasible: « Obviously, I will be in talks with Mercedes to see what we can do together. There are good ideas and good options. I think my schedule will be easily filled. »
