Vettel winner of the DHL Fastest Lap Award 2012
Sebastian Vettel won the DHL Fastest Lap Award 2012, which recognizes the driver with the most fastest laps during the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Since 2007, DHL has awarded the driver who achieved the most fastest laps during the Formula 1 season. This year, it is Sebastian Vettel who received this award. The German driver set the fastest lap in the race six times: in Bahrain, Canada, Hungary, Japan, Abu Dhabi, and the United States.
The Red Bull driver finishes far ahead of his rivals; indeed, behind Vettel, we find Jenson Button, Nico Rosberg, and Kimi Räikkönen, all three credited with two fastest laps in races during the 2012 season. They are followed by eight drivers who recorded a fastest lap in 2012: Kobayashi, Grosjean, Pérez, Schumacher, Senna, Hülkenberg, Webber, and Hamilton.
This is the second time, after 2009, that Sebastian Vettel has won this trophy. He follows his teammate Mark Webber, winner in 2011, and joins Kimi Räikkönen, who won this prize twice in 2007 and 2008.
With his 7 fastest laps set in 2012, Sebastian Vettel has now recorded a total of 15, placing him in 4th position in the ranking of drivers with the most fastest laps. He is preceded by Michael Schumacher, who achieved 77 fastest laps, Kimi Räikkönen (37 fastest laps), and Fernando Alonso (19 fastest laps).
